Serving People, Inspiring Righteousness, Imparting Truth
When Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit, He commanded His disciples to receive the Holy Spirit, it’s essential for us to receive and be filled with the Spirit! Jeribai leads you into how simple it is to receive the Holy Spirit.
Session 3 Outline: Receiving the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is one of the greatest GIFTS from GOD and as simple as it sounds – we have the incredible and humbling opportunity to RECEIVE Him as a personal gift.
Looking again at John 16:7 – Jesus is speaking to His disciples saying…
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; IT IS EXPEDIENT for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will SEND HIM unto you.”
Let’s define … EXPEDIENT (KJV) – profitable, BETTER, to your advantage
Imagine that – Jesus telling His disciples it’s better for YOU if I leave you… because another is coming who will be with you and IN YOU forever…
In John 15:26 Jesus says…
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
Luke 11:13…
“how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
The Holy Spirit is given to the believer as the promise of the Father; He is a distinct gift.
I would like to reiterate that RECEIVING the Holy Spirit is a very simple act of Faith. We bring our faith in a simple REQUEST to God and He GIVES us the Holy Spirit…
Let’s look at the word RECEIVE, it means…
John 20:22 … When He had said this, He breathed on them and said
“Receive the Holy Spirit.”
This parallels Genesis 2:7 – when “the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
This is incredible!!
TODAY I want to simply say that in the life of the believer – there are specific moments when RECEIVING the Holy Spirit is EVIDENT. When these moments happen, they may be unique to your relationship with God and unique to your own special expression.
Let’s pray for salvation and pray for reception and trust the Holy Spirit to indwell you
As you read this prayer, believe it in your heart and read it out loud, as a heart confession to the Lord…
Father God, thank you for your son Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus died, was buried and was resurrection from the grave. I declare that Jesus is Lord!! Father God, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. By faith I receive the Holy Spirit to fill me and live within me. Holy Spirit empower me to speak in tongues. I thank you for your goodness and faithfulness. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
